Kano Statistician General, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, Listed Five Months Achievements Since His Appointment

Aliyu Isa Aliyu Ph.D, who was appointed as the Director General of the Kano State Bureau Of Statistics in August 2023, by His Excellency Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, is a renowned mathematician with both local and international recognition as one of the best mathematicians across the globe.

Mr. Isah Aliyu, who was a senior lecturer in one of the Federal Universities in Nigeria was appointed by Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements and competence.

Mr. Aliyu, in a Facebook post titled; 𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞-𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞, has stated what he was able to achieved since his appointment as the boss of the State Bureau.

"Five months ago, His Excellency, Governor Abba K Yusuf, on the 7th August,  2023, appointed me as the Statistician General of Kano State Bureau of Statistics, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my state. His Excellency's commitment to data-driven governance has been evident. Here are 30 out of the achievements recorded during this period:

1. Established the first Kano State Bureau of Statistics website with a data bank http://www.ksbs.ng for official dissemination of information."
2. Procured 16 computer laptops, accessories, and repaired damaged ones.

3. Provided unlimited/uninterrupted internet access for the Bureau.

4. Collaborated with Kano Rural Electricity Board (REB) for the census of unserved/undeserved communities in the state (Work will begin soon)

5. Digitalized all communications and correspondence within the Bureau via the state official mails of @kanostate.gov.ng domain. Each department has an official email for internal and external communications.

6. Conducted training for Bureau staff at Kaduna bureau of Statistics on the official computation of Consumer Price Index.

7. Recruited focal ADHOC staff from 30 LGAs for the collection of market prices for computation of CPI, which began in December 2023.

8. Facilitated the approval for the return of diesel supply to the Bureau, ensuring uninterrupted power.

9. Engaged with NGOs like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Cred, Grid3 Nigeria, among others, to strengthen the Bureau in terms of capacity building and trainings.

10. Installed solar street lights to enhance security at the Bureau.

11. Organized a workshop for Directors of Planning, Research, and Statistics of all 44 LGAs in Kano to foster collaboration.

12. Renovated the Statistician General's Office.

13. Ensured prompt payment and salary increment of all casual staff from 10,000 to 20,000.

14. Prudently utilized the agency's monthly overhead without personal use.

15. Secured approval for the census of public tertiary institutions to assess conditions (to begin in few weeks).

16. Obtained approval for the establishment of a committee for the official computation of the state GDP.

17. Reinforced the law that requires permission from the Bureau for surveys in the state, validating and sharing data ownership with the state.

18. Secured approval for Graveyard Census, Religious Institutions Census, and Ward Heads Census.

19. Facilitated collaboration with AMG Foundation to establish the state cancer registry.

20. Collaborated with the state Private Health institutions management agency (PHIMA) for the conduct of a survey of traditional medicine practitioners in the state ( Work completed).

21. Facilitated collaborations with several agencies, including NITDA, NBS, and other universities across the world.

22. Secured a server storage space for the Bureau at the state Data center located at the Kano Internal Revenue Services.

23. Designed the first "Kano in Figures" pamphlet (under review).

24. Initiated collaborative talks with some universities with a view to making the Bureau a standard statistical training and research center.

25. Obtained an approval for the 2022 statistical year book which has not been compiled since 2021.

26. Provision of adequate office stationery items for efficient use.

27. Advised His Excellency on the need to have the state standing committee on tracking and monitoring the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDG) which was approved by His Excellency and will be chaired by the Statistician General.

28. Obtained an approval from His Excellency on the update of the state social register in collaboration with the ministry for planning and Budget.

29. Obtained an approval for installation of high powered solar system in the Bureau from His Excellency.

30. Obtained an approval for the procurement of a physical server for the Bureau."
